Toldya
Support
Toldya is a Chrome extension for Discord Web (discord.com). It does not yet work with the Discord desktop app.
Choose the current channel
- Open the Discord channel you want to hear in Chrome.
- Open the Toldya popup.
- Click Use current Discord channel.
- Click Save + test.
Toldya only watches the channel you selected. If you switch channels in Discord, select the new one again.
Author filtering
By default Toldya reads new messages from everyone in the selected channel.
- To hear one person, make sure a message from them is visible, then click Use author of last visible message.
- To hear everyone again, click Clear author filter.
Changing the selected channel clears the author filter.
TTS on and off
The TTS: ON / TTS: OFF control in the popup starts or stops speech immediately. When TTS is off, Toldya does not speak. Turn it back on when you want to hear new messages again.
Language and voice
In the Speech section you can choose:
- Language — English, French, or Hebrew in this beta
- Voice — Automatic, or any matching voice installed on your computer
- Speech rate
- Pitch — under Advanced
These settings stay on your device. Voice quality depends on the voices your operating system provides.
Phrases to ignore
Enter one phrase per line. Toldya removes those phrases before speaking, which is useful for repeating labels or “click here” boilerplate.
Save + test
Save + test stores your settings, checks that the Toldya backend is reachable, checks that your license can be activated, and speaks a short test sentence: “Toldya is connected.”
Do this after you set a channel or paste a license key.
License and device activation
Toldya is licensed. Paste your license key in the popup and click Save + test. A successful save binds this browser installation to one activation slot.
If you already activated this device, the popup shows Licensed. Use Change license only if you need to paste a different key.
Disconnect this device
Disconnect this device releases this installation’s activation slot so you can move Toldya to another machine or recover after a reinstall. Use it before you clear extension storage or switch computers when possible.
Common troubleshooting
- Reload the extension at
chrome://extensions, then open Discord again. - Refresh Discord so the page and Toldya can see the current channel.
- Confirm TTS is ON in the popup.
- Check the selected channel — the Discord tab must be that same channel.
- Check the author filter — if a person is selected, only their new messages are spoken.
- Confirm a valid license — click Save + test. If activation fails, the key may be unused, already at its device limit, or not valid for Toldya.
Toldya skips messages that were already on screen when it started watching. Wait for a new message after you see “Ready.”
