Toldya Guide · Discord TTS
How to Hear Discord Messages Out Loud Without Watching the Screen
Discord is useful when you are looking at it. The problem starts when an important message arrives while Discord is minimized, buried under another window, or sitting on a screen you are not watching.
1. Native text-to-speech inside Discord
Discord includes text-to-speech features, but they are not designed as a persistent audio relay for every important message you care about. Native TTS is useful when speech is deliberately invoked, but it does not solve every case where you want selected channel activity spoken automatically while your eyes are elsewhere.
2. Desktop notifications
Standard Discord notifications can help, but they still assume you notice the notification and look at the screen. If you are coding, charting, cooking, gaming, or focused on another task, a visual alert can disappear without ever becoming useful.
3. Add an audio alert layer
A different approach is to treat audio as the notification layer. Toldya is built around that idea: choose the Discord channel that matters and have matching new messages read aloud as they arrive.
The point is not to turn every Discord channel into noise. The value comes from being selective.
When this is useful
- You follow a time-sensitive Discord channel.
- You monitor bot or alert messages.
- You belong to a paid community where some posts matter more than others.
- You work with multiple windows and do not want to keep Discord in front of you.
- You can hear an alert even when your eyes are occupied.
The core idea
Important Discord message → spoken alert.
If Discord received the message but you were not looking when it arrived, audio can be a useful second layer.
