Toldya Guide · Selective notifications
How to Get Only Important Notifications Without Turning Everything Else Off
The choice is not “all notifications” or “no notifications.” A better system separates urgent information from ordinary activity.
Start with the cost of interruption
Every notification interrupts attention. If dozens of low-value alerts arrive every day, users eventually mute them or stop noticing them. That creates a problem when one message actually matters.
Classify before you notify
Ask which sources are genuinely time-sensitive. A group chat, marketing update, social reaction, and trading alert should not necessarily use the same attention channel.
Three useful filters
- Source: which app, server, or channel is allowed to interrupt?
- Sender: does the author matter?
- Timing: does the value of the message decrease quickly?
Use stronger delivery only for the top tier
Standard notifications can handle ordinary updates. High-value alerts can use a more noticeable path, including audio, without turning the rest of your digital life into noise.
Toldya's selective model
With Toldya, you choose the Discord Web channel that matters and can optionally narrow speech to one author. The product is intentionally selective rather than a general-purpose narrator for every Discord message.
