Toldya Guide · Discord TTS comparison
Discord TTS vs. Alert Relay: What’s Better for Time-Sensitive Communities?
Text-to-speech and audio alert relays sound similar, but they solve different problems.
What Discord TTS is good at
Traditional text-to-speech is primarily about converting text into spoken audio. It can work well for accessibility, reading assistance, or situations where someone intentionally wants a message spoken.
What an alert relay is trying to solve
An alert relay starts from a different question: Which Discord messages matter enough that I want to hear them when they arrive?
The problem is not merely converting text into speech. It is selecting high-value events and making them audible without continuous visual monitoring.
The difference is filtering
Imagine a Discord server with hundreds of messages per day but only one channel containing alerts you care about immediately. Reading the entire server aloud would be unusable. Reading the selected alert channel aloud can be useful.
When native TTS may be enough
- You only need occasional messages spoken.
- Someone deliberately invokes speech.
- The message does not need to reach you automatically.
- You are already actively using Discord.
When a selective alert relay may make more sense
- You follow time-sensitive channels.
- The relevant message may arrive while Discord is minimized.
- Only certain messages deserve immediate attention.
- You want audio to complement rather than replace Discord.
Toldya’s approach
Toldya is designed around selective Discord audio alerts. It is not trying to narrate Discord. It is trying to make selected important messages harder to miss.
